...squat man in a blue suit. He lifted up his face toward the dark cave of a stadium risen out of a cigaret smoke, peopled with 40,000 ghouls. Enormous lights concentrated their white, sterile fire upon his stubby head. On each side of him, in the opposite corners of a roped square, sat a boxer. On his right was a young German, whose heavy, amazed face protruded from the folds of a bathrobe that concealed a torso bulging with incredible dorsal muscles, a pair of clumsy thighs. On his left sat an old Irishman, tired and sly, with...

...face of the assaulting one; they had seen him, in the sixth round, swing his right hand twice to Berlenbach's jaw, at which the latter sank to his knees, his cloudy face even cloudier. A bell had rung then, and Burly Berlenbach got to his corner and the smelling salts. But, after that, McTigue seemed very tired. His debonair red trunks were soggy and dark with sweat. ...tomorrow. That Zarakov will remain in the shortstop position seems to be a certainty now. Howard has returned to Cambridge, and is recuperating rapidly, but the chances of his seeing baseball action again this spring are very slim. With Tobin fairly securely established at the initial sack, the hot corner is the only place left in the infield to be definitely filled, and Slayton, Ullman and Dacey are definitely in the running...

...rather annoying aspect of the situation is that the provocation is so small. The second section of an extra, misplaced purposely on the outside of what is perhaps only a Cambridge edition, contains a news box headed, "HARVARD MASHER MASHES TOE." Instantly every street corner between the Yard and the river is possessed by jumping dervishes, who not only jump, but bellow. Undergraduates, of course, are hardened to a considerable amount of noise, but if certain Boston papers will refrain during the examination period from adding their generous contributions, their newsies may cry "Wolf! Wolf!" all the rest...
