Experimenting with synthetic plant hormones, Jones found that one killed broad-leaved plants instead of stimulating growth, leaving such narrow-leaved plants as corn unscathed; it soon became the standard ingredient in preparations for controlling poison ivy and dandelion, paved the way for a host of other weed killers...
