...ethnic division was overpopulation. Too many people, and not enough resources. If that's true, then development becomes a way to get past the divisions of the past. If people prosper, they don't fight any more. Do you agree with that? Kagame: I don't think it's correct that the genocide happened as a result of overpopulation. The seeds of genocide were planted here six or seven decades ago, when the country was not overpopulated. For example in 1932, when the Belgians introduced the identity card, to make a difference between a Hutu and Tutsi...

...grand accomplishment of this law? By 2012, rural states may get .05% less of the total than they did before. That's something, but a relatively small accomplishment for a bill that was so hard fought in Congress and was billed as a major achievement. "You are correct that it is not as stark as it might have looked," concedes a Senate aide. "But this bill does lower the minimum. It does go down." If they come loose and are swallowed in multiples, those magnets can come together with force enough to tear through the intestines of a young child. (Mattel's announcement noted three such serious injuries that required surgery.) The magnet recall was unusually large because it includes toys sold...

Either way, lead paint in toys from China is not an issue Mattel can correct overnight. That isn't a happy situation for anyone, from families in the U.S. to workers in Chinese factories who face a daily risk of lead poisoning. It will take much more than yet another apology from Mattel to fix that...
