...team of physicists, headed by Stanford University's Dr. Robert Hofstadter, pried farther than ever into the heart of the atomic nucleus. "If our results are correct," said Hofstadter, "we found that the structure of both proton and neutron is much simpler than we expected. They appear to be two different aspects of the same entity-the nucleon. " The composition of the particles, he pointed out, is nearly alike except for the electrical charge. Each is composed of an outer cloud of moving mesons, a denser inner cloud, and an extremely dense, pointlike core. Both cores are no larger...

Feather on a Head. What is architecture? It was, said Le Corbusier in his book, something that went far beyond style. "The styles of Louis XIV, XV, XVI, or Gothic, are to architecture what a feather is on a woman's head." Essentially, architecture was the "masterly, correct, and magnificent placing of masses brought together in light. Our eyes are made to see forms in light. ...soloists presented a startling contrast to the chorus. Their expressiveness was moving, but I do not think it is correct here. As Oedipus, Archie Epps displayed a dazzling agility with the intricate melodies in an interpretation of Oedipus that communicated pathos and feeling rather than pride and firmness. The result of both solos was closer to the personal expressiveness of Carissimi's Jeptha than the square, forthright objectivity of Stravinsky's score...

...classicists, whether he knew or not, was House Speaker Sam Rayburn, who three years ago pushed through the proposal to "correct" the perspective by moving the east front wall 32½ ft. forward. To end the crumbling, he wanted a new façade of longlasting marble, and he rubbed his hands at the thought of additional space for congressional offices, a new restaurant, a tourist-free corridor. Cost for the overhaul: $17 million...

...irreparable damage upon the human race. Instead of deliberately creating an environment more effective than the ancient city, . . . our present methods would smooth out differences and reduce potentialities, to create a state of mindless unconsciousness . The polite name for this creature is 'man-in-space,' but the correct phrase is 'man out of his mind...
