...most physicists stopped working on it. Theorist John Schwarz of Caltech and his colleague Joel Scherk of the Ecole Normale Superieure, however, persevered, and in 1974 their patience was rewarded. For some time they had noticed that some of the vibrating strings spilling out of their equations didn't correspond to the particles they had expected. At first they viewed these mathematical apparitions as nuisances. Then they looked at them more closely; the ghosts that haunted their equations, they decided, were gravitons, the still hypothetical particles that are believed to carry the gravitational force...

...have never read such a bad account of Jesus' life as the blasphemous storytelling by Price. There are passages that do not correspond at all to the generally accepted versions of the New Testament. To suggest that we can learn more about the life of Jesus, based on historical evidence, by reading this apocryphal "gospel" seems an insult to any well-versed Christian with a hermeneutical background. ...janitors who clean our houses, for instance, are paid only $8.15 to $9.05 per hour, wages that correspond to incomes of $16,300 to $18,100 per year. Because Harvard pays so little, few janitors can afford to live in the community in which they work. Many have difficulty paying rent and buying food for their families. It's almost impossible to find a single janitor at Harvard who does not depend on a second source of income. Most, if not all, Harvard janitors work two and even three jobs--as many as 80 hours per week--and still struggle...
