...chain suspended across the expansive stomach. "Fancy Dress Costume, for Fete Days on His Yacht" showed a headless Long John Silver clad in pirate's costume, a crutch tagged "1929" under one arm, a bag of money in one hand, a hat bearing skull & bones and the word "Corsair" (Morgan yacht) on his head. The fourth costume was striped trousers and shirt, a green-flowered apron, blue gloves, green-rimmed spectacles, shears, trowel. Title: "Gardening Frock, for Horticultural Moments...
Officials of United Aircraft & Transport Corp. tried hard to conceal their excitement over an airplane being crated for shipment from East Hartford, Conn, last week. There was nothing extraordinary about the plane. It was a Vought Corsair of a year-old model, such as the U. S. Navy uses for observation, with interchangeable sea and land undercarriages. ...lacks the tunes which have made Rigoletto and Trovatore hurdy-gurdy matter. The plot is a complicated brew of political intrigue, kidnapping and poisoning which few in last week's audience attempted to define. Tibbett absorbed the attention. He sang magnificently, gave great dignity and force to the corsair who rose to be Doge in Genoa, finally died by the hand of his hunchbacked henchman. In one scene where he stopped a brawl and set a curse on the cringing hunchback, he was impressive enough to suggest the Boris Godounov of Basso Feodor Chaliapin. From beginning...
