...Review's inside back cover, a standing feature was "Lady Houston's Cold Cure," for she, like America's Bernarr Macfadden, fancied herself as a health authority. A stern course of nostrums beloved by Britons (Gee's Cough Linctus, Langdale's Cinnamon, Byard's Oil), the cure was dedicated by its inventor to suffering mankind with this benediction: "If this remedy cures you, and I hope and believe it will, please report to me, and in payment let your fee be-just saying-God bless Lady Houston...
Humor was not absent from the Court of Claims last week. When a particularly preposterous family tree had been reeled off in its entirety, the eminent King's counsel, Gavin Turnbull Simonds, observed with a discreet cough-quite as in Gilbert & Sullivan- "I fancy we have run into a bar sinister somewhere here...
Animals In 1918 and 1919, millions of men, women and children died from a worldwide epidemic of influenza. During the same period many U. S. pigs also died from an epidemic of a disease which duplicated all the symptoms of influenza in human beings. Stricken swine developed low fever, cough, bronchopneumonia. As a tactful cough to remind the U.S. public that the Clarke Collection is still in their vaults and still for sale, Knoedler's last week borrowed from such assorted owners as J.P. Morgan, William Randolph Hearst, Yale University and the Museum of the City of New York another group of 29 historical portraits of first importance...
...Ipswich police were even more in a dither. They gave away the secret of how Mrs. Simpson was to arrive by practicing elaborately in front of Ipswich Courthouse. Inside last week, plagued with a bad cough and a runny nose, was Mr. Justice Hawke before whom Mrs. Simpson was to accuse Mr. Simpson of carrying on with "Buttercup." It was considered a good sign for Mrs. Simpson when Mr. Justice Hawke, after emitting a loud sneeze, snapped at a lawyer who was pleading another case: "Don't talk so much! I have already made up my mind." Sporting...
