Looking to get to Logan Airport tomorrow? You’ll have one less option than last year. For the past 15 years, the Undergraduate Council (UC) has provided airport shuttles for Thanksgiving, winter, and spring breaks for $5 per person. Last spring, the Campus Life Committee (CLC), which organized shuttles and a few other student services, was eliminated to create a more streamlined, efficient UC. This decision resulted in the elimination of airport shuttles this school year. We fully supported cutting CLC, but now the UC needs to find a new way to provide a few valuable student services...
That's quite a change from four years ago, when Oleg and Vladimir were teaching literature and social sciences at the Yekaterinburg State University, writing little-seen dramas and running an amateur theater they founded in the mid-1990s. But in 2002, a staff member of the British Council, an organization that promotes cultural exchanges, watched rehearsals for the brothers' play Terrorism in Moscow and recommended it to the Royal Court Theatre in London. ...North Korea's test was a "major foreign policy failure for China," says Kenneth Lieberthal, professor of political science at the University of Michigan and who - as a former senior National Security Council staffer in the Clinton Administration - had been part of the U.S. team negotiating with Pyongyang in the late 1990s. China, after all, had consistently said that the only way to deal with Pyongyang was to engage the regime and provide it with incentives such as food aid and other economic goodies to prevent it from taking such provocative steps as testing a nuclear device. "Then, Kim Jung...
...internal Saudi turmoil couldn't come at a worse time for the Bush Administration. Vice President Cheney was in Riyadh just last weekend for talks with King Abdullah. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice wants to use the Saudi-founded Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), conceived as an economic body, as a vehicle for marshalling Sunni Arab support on regional security issues, particularly U.S. efforts to blunt Iranian ambitions. Rice has prevailed upon the original GCC members (Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman) to add Jordan and Egypt to their security loop. According to a Rice aide...
