...pipe bomb, complete with illustrations. In a literature course, he was said to have read from a diary in which he mentioned plans to "kill everybody." Asked at a news conference whether officials should have reacted, Springfield school superintendent Jamon Kent noted that funding cuts have reduced the counselor-to-student ratio to roughly 1 to 700. '"What do kids see every day in the movies?" he asked. "If we detained every student who said, 'I'm going to kill someone,' we would have a large number of students detained...

Glenn was bred to be a Republican and straddle racial lines. The youngest son of a retired grade school principal and counselor, he grew up in Columbus, Ga., with parents who stood out for their affiliation with the G.O.P. Reporters were creating images of her too, some that Mary disputes. In his forthcoming piece in Mirabella, Jim Fielder includes an account by a court-appointed counselor of an incestuous relationship involving Mary and one of her three brothers. Mary has told friends that the counselor who wrote this evaluation wildly exaggerated the truth, which was that in an innocent childhood exploration, she had once touched a brother's penis. She has told friends she hopes to sue the counselor. Friends say Letourneau is also angry with Fielder, claiming he not only interviewed her under false pretenses (she believed...
