Rampant misuse and counterfeiting has prompted officials to clamp down on Quaalude. Nine states have banned its sale, and the Drug Enforcement Administration has required Lemmon to cut production from 58 million tablets in 1978 to 7.5 million this year. What distinguishes the authentic national confession from the counterfeit? For one thing, there is no confusion of we and they. We remain responsible, even if the crime was in fact committed by them.
