Insulting students and staff to their colleagues in private, presenting different faces to many audiences and excluding those who know the most about service from the essential decisions disrespects the very ideals of service. ...that those who want differences treated with equality are pursuing what should be the American ideal. Krauthammer's most glaring omission, however, is his failure to propose any alternative to eliminating racial discrimination in the workplace. Declaring that such discrimination is illegal naively assumes that the institutionalized and dangerously covert racist attitudes that made affirmative action necessary in the first place can be legislated away.
