...quiet rustle of asparagus sprengeri and chlorophytum comosum is music to the ears of Rock Impresario Bill Graham these days. Graham, 45, the former proprietor of the Fillmore rock emporiums in New York and San Francisco, last week opened a six-day horticultural extravaganza at the San Francisco Cow Palace. Called "The World of Plants," it is a kind of Woodstock for flora freaks, featuring exhibits by 250 plant merchants, a 35-ft.-high bush-covered volcano, human tomatoes, and the piped-in music of Villa-Lobos, Debussy and Bartók. Piranesi, in one of his more imaginative moments, etched a smart temple at Tivoli, surrounded by figures in various melodramatic poses, stalking the ruined stairs, lurking behind the columns. One dark figure assumes a Byronic posture in the doorway...

...would seem that the real issue of gay liberation is not, like that of the socialist movement, a supposed right to something (like free medical care of ones neighbor's cow) but a right to be free from something (namely harrassment). It is a matter of liberty rather than supposed entitlement. The number one usurper of liberty is, of course, the state apparatus, whatever its stripe. Lawrence H. White H-R Sons of Liberty
