...focusing on sexual mores instead of the questionable actions of vested interests that threaten the common good. Nothing worthwhile can come from this case. If Jones wins, other opportunists will believe the court system will reward them too. And win or lose, the American presidency will be damaged. DAVID COWARD Pensacola...

Think of an old-dark-house party catered by Noel Coward. A place as creepy as the Pascals' needs a virgin sacrifice, and that would be Lesly (Tori Spelling), a waitress engaged to the young master of the house, Jackie-O's twin Marty (Josh Hamilton). He's halfway between normal and nuts, while Jackie lives in lunacy as if it were the garden room at high tea. Her favorite delusion is that she is Jacqueline Kennedy on the day of her husband's death. She's just a bit confused about the identity of the assassin...

"He didn't pull up," said Bailey afterward. "He's a coward." Johnson's manager then accused Bailey's team of trying to injure his prize runner. Bailey apologized for his barbs, but they seemed meaner after Johnson pulled out of the national championships because of the injury. No wonder people only care about running events once every four years...

Some impatience with the play perhaps results from seeing this scenario one too many times. Popular movies (Ghost, Beetlejuice, Ghostbusters) with the same treatment of otherworldly experiences have numbed us to the once-ingenious plot. It's particularly ironic that his plays should seem hackneyed, since Coward's ideas broke into the conservatism of the 1940's with his sexual innuendo and fresh comedic touch. Damn that Hollywood...
