RUSSIA. Last week the spy spat generated some real heat. When the Administration announced the mass expulsion and Moscow responded in kind, it recalled all the old Soviet-era standoffs. Moscow hyperventilated that the expulsions were a "throwback to the cold war" resulting from "cowboy-style" tactics. But the Bush team says the move showed their man's quiet muscle. The message to Moscow: Dubya is going to tell it like it is, with no pussyfooting around when Russia misbehaves...

...then the cowboy Cary Grant and the low-rent Grace Kelly went to the Great Barrier Reef by helicopter - see you later, Amber, I got work to do - for a big lunch and a snorkel. And there amid the coral occurred a great, G-Rated Romance, Hollywood-style. (Fast-action "happiness montage" included.) (According to the 2000 census, fewer than 10,000 of the city's 58,342 residents are not white.) A ranching area turned bedroom community through modest white flight, Santee is a conservative haven where the sight of an old-time...

...turned their cornfield into a maze. Now the attraction is earning almost as much money as their 200-cow dairy business once did. Cornfield mazes like theirs are cropping up everywhere. In North Carolina there's a Haunted Cornfield maze; in Camarillo, Calif., the Amazing Maize Maze. There are cowboy mazes in Colorado, crawfish mazes in Louisiana and Halloween mazes in almost every state. With an average admission cost of $7, they're a cheap way to while away an afternoon. "It's pretty good exercise," says Annie Lesko, 16, who visited Old MacDonald's Farm maze near Richmond...
