PRUNING POLYPS Superaspirin to the rescue? Preliminary findings suggest that COX-2 inhibitors--the arthritis-fighting "superaspirin"--may one day help prevent colon cancer. Researchers administered high doses to patients with familial adenomatous polyposis--a devastating disease in which the colon can become so overrun with polyps that the entire organ must be removed. After six months, the number of potentially malignant polyps was reduced 25%. If COX-2 inhibitors can work in such extreme cases, researchers hope they can prevent polyps in patients with a mere predisposition to colon cancer...
...pretty good match. Baldwin nicely tamps down his natural charisma to get at a good man's frustration in abiding by the stern moral rules that he set for the tribunal. In melodrama, of course, the villains always win; they're the ones who get to strut. Thus Brian Cox, as Goering, has his drollest mass-murderer role since he played Hannibal Lecter in the 1986 Manhunter; and Herbert Knaup (of Run, Lola, Run) is a handsomely conflicted Albert Speer...
...people of the greater Manhattan area fought back with the same weapons: words. The vendors outside Shea Stadium were making a killing selling anti-Rocker apparel. A large majority of the audience donned specially designed T-shirts claiming the standard "John Rocker sucks" to the more creative "Rocker sucks Cox." (The aforementioned "Cox," of course, refers to Braves manager Bobby Cox.) One man proudly displayed a sign meant to read, "How do you spell Ignorant? R-O-C-K-E-R." (Unfortunately, the sign spelled ignorant, "ingorant.") Rocker's name has been sullied, booed and hissed more than any athlete...

After years of criticizing Roman Catholicism (including infamously ripping up a picture of Pope John Paul II on Saturday Night Live in 1992), she decided last year to be ordained as a priest by controversial Irish clergyman Bishop Michael Cox, the leader of a tiny religious sect. However, O'Connor hasn't quite joined mainstream Catholicism. Cox has come under fire in the past for reportedly offering confession over the telephone. And according to Des Cryan, assistant director of the Catholic Press and Information Office in Dublin, Cox's "holy...
