...engaged in perhaps the most ambitious exploration of the solar system since the start of the space age. At Cape Canaveral, NASA last week was preparing for the launch of the Skylab 3 mission, which may become the longest manned space flight. An unmanned U.S. craft, Pioneer 10, is closing in on Jupiter after a voyage of 20 months across more than half a billion miles of the solar system. Still another unmanned spacecraft, Mariner 10, is speeding toward a flyby of Venus and later will provide the first closeup view of Mercury-man's first two-planet survey...

...what may seem to some to be a dangerously suggestive circulation-promotion gimmick, Forbes magazine President Malcolm Forbes, 54, has taken to the skies in a hot-air balloon. But surprisingly few women are applying for "outside" men's jobs, such as lineman or installer-even though they pay more than most women's jobs. (In Columbia, S.C., for example, repairmen make as much as $124 a week, v. $101.50 a week for an information operator.) Only 389 women were moved into such...

...learned much of his craft at the Last Chance, and the take from the gate paid part of his tuition. Playing at the club gave him an opportunity to develop an easy stage rapport. "I consider working with audiences an education," he said. "You have to learn the ability to adapt yourself to different types of people." But the nightclub environment became stifling. "I was becoming Brock Walsh the live jukebox. All people wanted to hear was Elton John. That was the least dangerous stuff to do, if you didn't want to offend anybody...
