...baldness of the approach and the fact that he had no real re-election challenge that required raising the money caused the Eggs McBentsen affair to unleash a storm of criticism. Bentsen quickly disbanded the club, called the mistake a "doozy," and returned the money. The episode did not cramp his fund-raising ability: he has raised over $5 million for his 1988 Senate campaign. It did, however, give Bentsen a bit more caution, which is the one trait he seems to share with the man who chose him to run for Vice President...
...idea, of course, is pretty farfetched. Besides, though Strauss would disagree, the Oval Office might cramp his style. Is Mikhail Gorbachev in town? Strauss -- and Gorbachev -- are at Mrs. Reagan's table for the state dinner. She won't tell him she has a young daughter; he won't tell her he has just lost his job. This sweet, slightly strained film finds knowing laughs in all the frustrations...

Every 16 years or so, he would emerge from prison and savor freedom without letting it cramp his style. "My next fall is due around year end of 1996," he observes, "so I have a while yet." Chuck Berry is never likely to be out on good behavior...
...drink in one hand, peanut in the other. Good view of the vast maple dance floor. Impressive crowd for three in the afternoon. Mostly old people. Here and there one partner looks so infirm it must be like dancing with a bedpost, but it doesn't seem to cramp the active one, who twirls like a top, shaking a mean leg in the bargain...
