...recently that earlier this year the blacks suffered from strong differences within their ranks. In general, younger blacks wanted to take more radical action against the University, and older ones wanted to cool it, to wait and see if the University would come around to their position on the creation of an Afro-American studies program. But despite the tensions, it was a black question and they kept it to themselves. The black community is only the most extreme example of groupism which almost everyone at Harvard experiences...
Vitriolic Denunciation. The Communists chose the political aspect of the struggle as their subject for the opening session, framing their points in tough and seemingly inflexible language. Speaking first, Tran Buu Kiem, chief delegate for the National Liberation Front and also its shadow foreign minister, demanded the creation of a "peace cabinet" in Saigon that would treat the Front as an equal. Harvard's sanguine policy of integrating black students into the white environment--like integrating Nebraskans into the Eastern environment--may often be counter-productive...
...previous collective consideration to student attendance at Faculty Meeting, was under an implicit injunction from the Faculty debate of January 14th to sumbit a draft resolution to this week's meeting. It was our further impression that the Faculty's injunction to the SFAC precluded our proposing the creation of yet another study committee since the SFAC itself had been charged with the issue. Hence our effort in SFAC's two-hour meeting of the 16th--one of our most constructive and harmonious sessions to date, and the last of the present membership--to devise one possible mechanism for student...
