This past fall has seen the HTW in its new quarters, Brattle Hall, which four members of the organization now own. The first production there was "Troilus and Cressida," one of Shakespeare's most controversial plays and one that has tempted few producers because of its intensely rigid poetry, its bitter theme, and its lack of histrionic possibilities. (It might be pointed out here that Shakespeare is rarely given a first-rate showing on Broadway until some actor promotes it as a vehicle for his own glorification. Shakespeare for itself, no). The Workshop did for "Troilus and Cressida" what museum...
With the exception of Miss Raphaelson and Andrews, the lead performers also appeared in the HTW's presentation of "Troilus and Cressida" last winter. Kilty played Ulysses, David played the part of Pandarus, Fletcher was Hector, and Miss Farrand played Cressida...
Albert Marre, who directed "Henry IV," and who played Thersites in last season's "Troilus and Cressida" will direct this production. The new costumes will be designed by Richard Baldridge, who is now teaching at the University of Iowa...

The clear definition of each of the three important characters avoids the ambiguity which prevails in the Greek camp, and in the attitude toward war. Jan Farrand is gorgeous, graceful, and convincing as a Cressida who wants to be faithful but simply cannot say no. Bryant Haliday plays a tragic Troilus with maturity and restraint. His statement of utter despair when his world collapses about him is impassioned, but unexaggerated...
Next Wednesday will be ladies night at Brattle Hall. The Harvard Theatre Workshop has announced that Radcliffe students can purchase tickets to Troilus and Cressida at special rates for that evening...
