Yesterday a First Freshman crew was picked from the two that have been rowing since the class races in April. The men chosen are: Stroke, Locke; 7, Loud; 6, Peyton; 5, Perry; 4, Talbot; 3, Frost; 2, Endicott; bow, Hawkins. Hawkins and Talbot are the new men taken into the boat in place of J. Lawrence and Whitney. Endicott has been moved down from bow to 2 and Hawkins put in his place. 7, where J. Lawrence rowed before he was taken to the 'Varsity, is now filled by Loud, whose place at 4 has been taken by Talbot...
...annual wail of a desperate crew management is again put in print before a Freshman class. It is a peculiar phenomenon that year after year when the time for departure to New London approaches, a large per cent. of first year men are found to have been wanting in class loyalty to such an extent that they have considered themselves unable to support their crew. In the tardy, most men are out riding, rowing, or playing tennis till very late in the afternoon, and do not return from dinner in time for a 7 o'clock concert...
Later in the afternoon the two Freshman eights rowed a two mile race, from the Longwood Bridge to the Union boat house. The race was a very pretty one to watch, as there was clear water between the two crews at no time during the race. The first boat, by a good spurt toward the finish, won by about three-quarters of a length. A regular first crew will probably be picked from these two boats either this week or the early part of next, but a second crew will be kept for a while longer...
