...weather this year seems bound to keep the men indoors, for the drop in temperature on Saturday night dashed the hopes of getting on the river soon. The dates which the first crews have been on the river in recent years are as follows: 1912, March 14; 1913, March 4; 1914, March 9; 1915, February 16. Thus if this year's crew succeeds in getting out within ten days the date will be well up with average. Last year's date was phenomenal, so there is no reason to be discouraged at present conditions...
Yesterday's crew practice was marked by several shifts both in the University and the Freshman boats. F. W. Busk '16 was sent to 2 in University A, taking the place of Mosely Taylor '18, who now rows that position in University B. J. C. Soucy '16 will be out until next week on account of grippe, which while not serious, requires a rest for a few days...
Columbia has made public no make-up of her crew, but over 100 candidates have started practice under a new system in which every man who keeps in regular training will be given a seat in some crew, perhaps made up by classes or dormitories in the spring. In order to arouse the enthusiasm which was notably lacking at Columbia last year, Coach Rice will make no cut in the squad. With these new conditions as inducements the present squad has reached the largest total in several years...
Little is known of the crew situation at Princeton. The University eight will row Princeton on Lake Carnegie for the first time since 1913 on April 20. The first and second crews will arrive four days before the races, which will be rowed on the first day of the Easter recess. In the last race between the two colleges, a triangular contest on the Charles, in which Pennsylvania, Princeton and Harvard took part, Princeton easily won, the University taking second place. The year before in a similar regatta, Cornell was victorious, and the University eight finished ten feet ahead...
...usual, the first two University and Freshman crews worked out in the tank yesterday. C. C. Lund '16 was put back at stroke on the first crew after an absence of one day. T. T. Mackie '18 will be back at Newell Friday, or Monday at the latest. A. Potter '17, out with a sprained ankle, is not expected to return to the machines for some time...
