...Crude Shortage. Pure Oil's problem has been too little production, too many gasoline wars. As old wells thinned out and not enough new ones were brought in to replace them, the company was forced to turn to competitors for two-thirds of the supplies for its gas stations. At the retail level, Pure also had to cut oil and gas prices to match competitors...

...Gulch of Europe. It's hot, it's dry, it's wild. Instead of good guys and bad guys, there are carabinieri and mafiosi. Instead of Hollywood moviemakers there are Italian moviemakers who scuttle about the landscape manufacturing folklore. Niven alone survives disaster by coasting through the film ever so lightly. Early on, before the first fissures appear, he issues a nimble challenge to his costar: "Are you proposing to pit your crude animal instincts against intelligence, culture and breeding?" Unfortunately Brando answers yes, then lumbers on to demonstrate how a potentially great talent can petrify through miscasting and misuse. In one scene he attempts to seduce the mayor's daughter by performing a squalid striptease. Later, posing as a mentally defective prince, he gibbers like a traumatized gorilla and has to be spoon-fed. Then, pretending...
