HARVARD CREW QUARTERS, RED TOP, CT., June 12, 1907.--The main feature of the crew practice here today was the decided shake-up in the University four-oar during the afternoon practice. The boat started about 5.15 o'clock with G. Bacon stroking instead of Lunt. After a mile C. Morgan replaced Amberg at number 3. In a short while Lunt was put in Swaim's place at number 2, and later Burchard replaced Wiggins at bow. The four-oar has not been doing satisfactory work, and Coach Wray has been paying especial attention to it. More changes are likely...
YALE CREW QUARTERS, GALES FERRY, CT., June 12, 1907.--The Yale eight had another time row over the four-mile course about 7 o'clock tonight. The late start was due to the rough weather. The row was upstream with the wind and tide favorable and the course was covered in 22 minutes, 11 seconds. At the two-mile mark, opposite the Navy Yard the freshman eight took up the race one length ahead, and finished a length behind the university crew...
HARVARD CREW QUARTERS, RED TOP, CT., June 11, 1907-Today the University crew had the hardest work of the season. This morning the crew went down over the first half-mile of the course at thirty strokes to the minute, and then continued downstream another mile and a half and back at easy stretches. The river was rough and much water was shipped. In the afternoon the men rowed downstream to the railroad bridge in short stretches and returned up the four-mile course without a stop. No time was taken as the stroke was kept slow...
YALE CREW QUARTERS, GALES FERRY, CT., June 11, 1907.-On account of the four-mile race yesterday the crews were given easy work today. In the morning the university and freshman eights took short spins rowing at easy stretches. The university and freshman four-oared crews had a one and a half-mile race. Though the freshmen were given one and a half boat lengths' handicap they were defeated by four lengths. A high wind and consequent rough water prevented any further practice in the morning...
YALE CREW QUARTERS, GALES FERRY, CT., June 10, 1907.--This morning the university eight-oared crew was sent over the upper half-mile of the course at a racing clip. Although the men showed good form, the time was not quite satisfactory. In the four-oar, Griswold and Robbins were interchanged, the former going in at stroke, and the latter being moved to No. 2. Hunt was given a place in the freshman eight, and the two substitutes, Hyde and Brown, were dismissed...
