...Frye went to Cuba five months ago, having volunteered to serve the government there gratuitously for five years. Since his arrival his experiences with the Cubans have been most interesting. From threats of lynching and attempts at blackmail the Cuban newspapers have turned to hearty appreciation of his efforts. From being regarded as a spy and a robber of Cuban nationality he has come to be looked upon as the virtual founder of education in the island. President Eliot, in response to a request from Mr. A. E. Frye L. S. '90, Superintendent of Schools in Cuba, has consented to furnish free tuition in the Summer School, for a large number of native Cuban school teachers. According to reports from Havana, if adequate arrangements can be made, about 1000 teachers will take advantage of this offer. The government will probably furnish army transports for bringing them here, and Mr. Frye hopes it will be possible for them to visit many different cities, through the generosity of the railroads and the municipalities themselves...
