...only one. Lenore Lonergan, another featured player in the show, and an expert comedienne, has no volume for singing, much less a voice, and she, too, is given songs to sing. Assuming that the lyric writer (Johnny Mercer, in the current case) has something to say, it would be good to hear what it is. Miss Lonergan can not be dismissed, however, as a total failure. In fact, in her non-musical moments she contributes more to the comedy than any of the other performers...
...have them all waiting for her when she returned to her car in the store garage. Though Loewy's work does not have the imaginative sweep of Designer Bel Geddes' visions of triple-decked planes, rotary airports and submarinelike ocean liners, he has a greater influence on current design and modern living than any other designer simply because his pen is in so many different inkpots...
Flash of a Knife. In 1943 when he began designing the first postwar Studebaker, Loewy decided that current cars were too bulky, too laden with chromium "spinach and schmalz," and had too many blind spots for the driver. During the current race some independents have accused the CCA of levelling blanket attacks at all unendorsed candidates. It would be hard to deny this. The Association has too often tended to lump all independents into one group in campaign literature--the opposition, "politicians," "grafters," or just poor choices. The CCA does have a case, however, in that many of the strongest independents are opposed to Plan E government, and sworn to remove at least the PR section of the city Charter. With the system working well now, and expected to do better, there is little reason to elect...
