Providence employs a so-called "checking line" of three juniors, Pete Valenti, Rich Cabalka and Rich Cusack. Among them the line has scored only 17 goals. The third Friar line has a bit more scoring punch with freshman John McMorrow, junior Dave Kelly and sophomore Tim Whisler combining for 21 goals and 32 total assists...
...Homecoming's plot is familiar by now: a college professor in America (Michael Jayston) brings his wife (Vivien Merchant) back to London to meet his family: a malevolent patriarch (Paul Rogers), a fey uncle (Cyril Cusack) and the patriarch's two unmarried sons-an aspiring boxer (Terence Rigby) and a seedily elegant hoodlum type (Ian Holm). The professor separates himself from his family and stands aside as his wife is drawn into it. It would seem that the men humiliate her, but she thrives on their abusive attentions. Indeed, by taunting and captivating each of them sexually...
...backdrop: Irish locations, filmed lovingly by Gerry Fisher, and a cast of splendid faces, as hard and gnarled as blackthorn walking sticks. When Kinsella's arrival at the abbey prompts Father Manus (a delightful cameo by Cyril Cusack) to rustle up a feast of fresh salmon, the viewer can almost taste...

Author Forsyth, a dealer in stereotypes, never managed that. Best of all, Zinnemann understands what the oldtime action directors knew instinctively: violence and death do not arrive in pompous slow motion but shock us with their suddenness. Yet Zinnemann's handling of violence is tasteful...
...Stern, U.S. Attorney for New Jersey, flew to Paris to discuss the case. Relations between the U.S. and France have been strained over drug traffic; American narcotics experts estimate that 80% of the heroin brought to the U.S. is purified from raw opium in clandestine laboratories around Marseille. John Cusack, the chief American narcotics agent in Europe, had criticized the French for protecting hoodlums running the drug traffic in France. The French stiffly replied that the U.S. is looking for a scapegoat on which to blame its narcotics problems; they take credit for the fact that Cusack was recalled last...
