...with the Merlin wireless modem the first time I saw a picture of one in an ad. It is so adorable. The modem is built into one of those PCMCIA cards that fit into a credit-card-size slot on a laptop computer; a teeny, 2-in. antenna--so cute!--pops up to send and receive data at 19.2 kbps. That's a fairly pedestrian speed, but if it meant I could do e-mail and even browse the Web while riding the Long Island Rail Road, I'd happily put up with it. Imagine all the cool things...
...gleefully proves more graphic than anything that you'd ever see on the WB, while a fat lawyer, and the town gigolo named Skank, whose promiscuous sexual nature seems to make its way around the tiny town more than once, heat up all the chilly proceedings. A pair of cute little blond kids with potty mouths like you've never heard, the star of the hockey team, who is on trial for shooting a guy from New York City and cameos by some very unexpected stars round out a surprisingly impressive package...
...other mendicants of a similar ilk who honestly do need our assistance to make it to the next day. Unlike our friend, you won't find them striking up conversations with passersby. They don't take the T into Harvard Square every day. They don't carry cute little signs. They are not charming, personable, or, often, even just plain nice. A lot of them clearly have mental problems. But it is these folks who truly require our help, who need monetary assistance to make it from day to day. And from observation, they don't seem to be getting...
...crow's feet, but I don't care. I still think that she is just as absolutely as adorable now as she ever was--even though according to "Clarissa Explains It All", she should officially not own a single item from Claire's Accessories. But she is still terrifically cute in a terrifically cute movie that is exactly what one would expect from the reigning diva of ABC's TGIF...
...work, but that is not such a bad thing (remember Elizabeth Berkeley trying to shed her teenybopper image in Showgirls? Neither do I. Staying with what you know can be an extraordinary move, actually). Yet this movie, even (or dare I say especially?) in its clichd nature, pushes that cute little button that makes us all instantly comforted by the tender orderliness of a happy ending...
