...which she entertains the two reporters is one of the funniest of the play. As the lecherous old Uncle William, Greg Clayman is also quite amusing, and the skillful makeup job of Rosetta Lee makes his protrayal even more convincing. His handling of the standard mistaken-identity plot is cute if short-lived, and quickens the otherwise leisurely pace a bit; the play, especially in the first couple of scenes, does tend to lag due to some awkward staging...

...Benjy Stone, Ben Toro-Hernandez is stuck with some of the most painful material to deliver. It is a tribute to his acting ability that Benjy seems halfway-believable. Toro-Hernandez sings competently and is endearingly cute in his courtship of K.C. Downing, an assistant on Comedy Cavalcade. It takes a brave actor to slog through some of Benjy's asides to the audience; Toro-Hernandez should get a Purple heart...

Grant, who can soon be seen in Sirens and Bitter Moon, is every inch the blithe aristocrat. MacDowell imports her Groundhog Day sweetness to a role that is more a fantasy than a character. And Rowan Atkinson has a cute turn as a tongue-tied cleric. Richard Curtis (The Tall Guy, Blackadder) has stocked his script with transatlantic gags (How many times has Carrie had sex? "Less than Madonna, more than Lady Di"). The movie strains a bit to prove it's all a lark, but because the mood is cunningly sunny, and the cast is so relaxed...
