Died. Luigi Dallapiccola, 71, Italian twelve-tone composer; of heart disease; in Florence. In 1939, Dallapiccola adopted Arnold Schoenberg's dodecaphonic method of composing and with it produced complex, passionate vocal and instrumental music in which he tried to express Europe's suffering.
