Skip the well-worn hits, and go right to the song sketches to hear how Charles felt his way toward redefining American pop music. And if you somehow make it to disc eight, the reward is a recording of the legendary moment when record executive Ahmet Ertegun sang a bizarre-- but not at all bad-- version of What'd I Say to convince Charles of the song's potential...

Each show had a distinctive voice: on Earl, that of a good-at-heart petty crook (Jason Lee) trying to make his life right, on Chris, the hard-edged nostalgia of narrator Chris Rock, looking back on his childhood in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn. They share another, less fortunate attribute: neither show has developed its characters much...

Ashley is hilarious. That is, of course, if you are referring to her Midwestern accent. But her addiction to all things dairy doesn’t keep her from doing a damn good designing job for the magazine. Plus, she always brings cheese to the production suite, which is nice, especially next year when we call Ashley at 4 a.m. to recover all the pages we lost. Hopefully she won’t go running back to PBHA...
