For a concept developed and produced in a town largely pre-occupied with national productions bound for the Big Apple, the goal was appropriately modest: Dancin' in the Street!, a musical revue offering 33 Motown hits by singers-dancers and a six-piece band, was supposed to occupy the Next Move, one of Boston's tiniest stages, for the better part of a month...
...field of cow chips. They had Sheriff T.J.-they called him Ed Earl-and Miss Edna-they ailed her Mona-lookin' longingly at each other from th' opposite sides of middle age. Best of all, they had a county fair's worth of good dancin'. Cheerleaders shook their pompoms, Aggies stomped around the locker room, Edna's girls sashayed up and down the big staircase, and the Governor did what politicians do best-tap dance. That show opened in 1978 and they tell me it's still goin' strong...

Some shows have jettisoned the libretto and returned to basics: all singin' (Ain't Misbehavin'), all dancing (Dancin'). all burlesque (Sugar Babies) or altogether (the revival of Oh! Calcutta!).
