Exposure to toxins is another danger for the 235,000 laundry and dry-cleaning workers nationwide, Forms of nonyl phenol ethoxylate (NPEs), chemicals commonly found in U.S. detergents, have been shown to cause fish to change gender and are banned in the European Union and Canada.
