The teenagers say they'll buy 15, hoping to save some for friends back home. They re-emerge on the street, with their stash in a paper bag. Later they'll eat the mushrooms, maybe mixing them with bananas or yogurt to cut the bitter taste. "I'll try anything I don't have to shoot up," says Doi, 18. "I just...

...Even beyond the horrifying flaws in the postal service?s long-term budgetary planning, I have to question the methodology by which they came up with the latest increases. I can just see the brainstorming process now, somewhere in a dank basement office on Capitol Hill: "Hey, I have an idea! Maybe no one will notice if we raise the rates on postcard stamps!" ...even NYPD Blue's). We've seen O'Neill's bulldog lawman too often, as well as the hackneyed Noo-Yawk elements: the title, the waterfront scenes, the fast-talking thugs constantly declaring their ethnicity, swearing, spouting colorful cliches or all three ("Kiss my underpaid Irish ass!"). The dank, moody tone is dead-on, though, and a strong cast includes the welcome David Strathairn as the stressed-out head of the FBI force. It's hardly the cure-all for Thursdays-at-10 malaise, but this Apple at least has a chance of keeping the doctors...
