Pittsburgh's mayoral term was changed in 1858 from one year to two. Henry A. Weaver served a one-year and a two-year term, 1857-60. Prior to him, Magnus Murray served three one-year terms, 1828-31. John Darrah had eight terms, 1817-25. But Pittsburgh's present charter dates from 1903. William A. Magee had two four-year terms (1910-14, 1922-26). Charles Howard Kline was the first four-year Mayor of Pittsburgh to succeed himself...
...Nicaragua's earthquake (TIME, April 13), sprang again last week. Possibly the No. 1 bandit, General Augusto Sandino, who had voluntarily announced suspension of hostilities, was not to blame. ...Greene Scholarship is the third that has been established at the University within the past fortnight. The first of these was the "William Henry Meeker '17 Scholarship," to be awarded "for excellence in some of the English courses"; while the second was founded as the "Robert Darrah Jenks Scholarship" in memory of a graduate of that name of the class of 1897.
