...there, like the bare bones of long-dead hills, are piles of gigantic stones. Jackals wander across the fields, and black kites wheel lazily in the sky. Tiny villages huddle beside the road, and when an automobile approaches, naked children cower in fright, then invariably, as panicky chickens do, dart into the car's path. Gaunt women, stripped to the waist, work in the fields...
Master's Degree. Prancing nimbly, but standing her ground with no urging from Rider Welch, the horse halted the calf in his rush. For the next minute the two played a dart-and-dodge game, the calf trying to get around the horse and back to the herd. Then the calf gave up-Marion's Girl gravely facing him, head on. Nose to nose they stood, frustrated calf and triumphant horse, while the crowd shouted its appreciation. Said one fervent rancher: "A cow pony with a master's degree...
Convair is already in developmental production of the Navy's new delta-wing F2Y Sea-Dart. A supersonic jet fighter with skis for landing on water, it skitters ashore looking like an ungainly swordfish (see cut). Convair expects the new design to combine land-based performance with water-based versatility, create a "revolution" in naval operations. Current backlog: more than $1 billion...

Built by Convair, the XF2Y-1 Sea Dart taxis, takes off and lands on a hydro-ski (submerged in the picture) that keeps its fuselage well above the surface when it is moving rapidly. As soon as the plane is in the air, the hydro-ski retracts into its belly, giving it the low-drag flight of a land-based jet. Chief advantages of the ski-jet: it is not burdened...
Anyway, before today's first match was five minutes gone the attendants were whisking one fellow out of the ring. He was not the matador, the man who engages the bull, but one of a squad of agitators who dart around the arena harrassing the bull, armed only with a cape. If it appears that the bull will make contact with one of them, the man sprints behind one of four barricades situated around the sides of the arena. This particular agitator got caught out in the middle, where the bull bounced him around twice on his horns, then crushed...
