...Capt. Cushman of the university nine is practising his men but little now, expecting to put them in training in the gymnasium soon. Four of the university nine of last season were members of the class of '82-Mathewson, Parker, Partridge and Webster. Mathewson, however, is studying in the Dartmouth Medical School, and will play this season. ...annual congress of presidents of the New England colleges was held Nov. 3 in Williamstown, the visitors being handsomely entertained by the president and faculty at Williams College. The colleges composing the association are Harvard, Yale, Brown, Amherst, Wesleyan, Dartmouth, Boston University, Trinity, Williams and Tufts; and they are represented by Presidents Eliot, Porter, Robinson, Seelye, Beach, Bartlett, Warren, Pynchon and Carter, respectively. Tufts College was represented by Professor Shipman. There were also in attendance Professors Newton of Yale, Palmer of Harvard, Westgate of Wesleyan, Williams of Brown and Rice of Williams. Most of the Dartmouth Greek-letter societies have decided to hold their initiations this fall instead of just before commencement, as heretofore. This action has been the means of breaking up the two rival freshman societies, Kappa Sigma Epsilon and Delta Kappa. The former was established at Yale in 1840, and has had several chapters in other colleges, but all are now defunct. The Delta Kappa was established at Yale, like its rival, but five years later. Its southern chapters were broken up by the Rebellion, the Amherst chapter died in 1870, the Yale chapter was suppressed by the faculty...
