Larry Thrunch (played by David Sonenberg, who studied acting in London before coming here) makes a delightful hero as he begins to regret selling his soul to the Spirit of Law (Ed Overtree, a Princeton Triangle alumnus) in order to be "Number One" and catch the affections of Mary Wealth (Gretchen Hackbarth, a B.U. drama major). Sonenberg and Overtree make a slick, professional pair as they battle competing students and then each other. Like the rest of the cast, they can sing, although everyone at times has difficulty being heard...
This cast does a fairly solid job. Jean Richards is perfect as the whimsical girl, Louisa, falling in love. So is David C. Burrows, her father, bumbling through his own petty confusion. My favorite in the show was Johnny Armen as the Indian, Mortimer. Dressed in long underwear, tennis shoes, and an Indian wig, he played the evil forces of the world that ensnarl the boy and girl--an Egyptian, a Venetian, a Roman, and a Pirate (as well as the Rapist's Assistant). While he whips the boy in one of the tableau scenes, he keeps looking...
After the sign-off good nish's between David and Chet and "for NBC News," Brinkley returns to his office to stand by to retape any fluffs or update breaking stories for the part of the nation receiving the show on a delayed basis. He may also watch CBS to see how Cronkite has played that day's news. "I like to compete," he confesses...
