...Dean Jewett apparently published the diversity data anonymously in order not to perpetuate house stereotypes, while still preserving the educational integrity of the survey. Yet the survey, in its anonymous form or not, indicates that these stereotypes are no longer caricatures but facts. Harvard should aim for progress, not regress. FAS could make the first progressive step by acting swiftly to create the administrative infrastructure to utilize the Mellon Grant. In addition, Dr. Mas-Collel should delineate his objectives as Dean in a written plan with goals and timetables.
