Origin. Surreptitiously circulated in Russia during the War, the Protocols of the Learned Elders of Zion spread through Europe in 1917 largely because they furnished a handy explanation of the Russian Revolution. They reached the U. S., were reprinted in Henry Ford's anti-Semitic Dearborn Independent.
