...Maybe I am placing too much faith in the power of community debate??blame Social Studies 10. The fact remains that multiculturalism and religious rights are vital issues to all Harvard students, and discussion remains the backbone of any education. If House Committees had added this to their agendas and University Hall paid for advertisements and pizzas, students would have come out and talked, which is the only way that acceptance improves...
...measurable and specific goals, employ law enforcement instead of the military, and maximize international cooperation—is persuasive, it is hardly revolutionary. As Richardson moves from the historical to the contemporary, she unfortunately begins to adopt the frustrated rhetoric that has characterized so much political “debate?? in recent years. ...only the second student known to have spoken at a Harvard presidential installation—and implicitly rejected the mutual responsibility of the student citizenship he discussed. Some would argue that the installation was exactly the forum for “free inquiry and open debate?? that Petersen described. But the hostile criticism that he used in his speech only served to chill future prospects for such engagement: the ceremony of the day was not about an exchange between faculty and students. It was about a University leader who pledged to “recognize our accountability...
