Last week Silver charged that at least 15 sellers of vacuum cleaners, food freezers, storm windows, "have gypped . . . our public out of millions." For example, the decoy couples called a station about a sewing machine advertised at $26.50. They were visited by a sharper who confided that the machine was not very good; its needle was apt to snap under heavy strain and could not be replaced. Then he offered a $50 discount on a $189.50 model...
Dangerous Decoy. Near Utah's Bear River Wildlife Refuge, where the bleak shadows of the Wasatch Mountains stretch toward Great Salt Lake, hunters could hardly shoot fast enough. Fat from a summer in the grainfields of western Canada, great flights of geese and fresh-water ducks made tempting targets (see color pages following). Bright, bobbing decoys lured the flyers down toward danger; artificial calls quacked to them as they passed; shotguns (usually 12 gauge) blasted broad patterns of destruction across the shallow reaches of the river. There was enough hocus-pocus in each backfield to catch U.S. camera crews continually off guard. Often they focused on a decoy runner as he bucked and twisted downfield. Final score: Argonauts 13, Rough Riders...
...came to the U.S. in 1939, married New York-born Painter Sage, became an American citizen. Their solidly luxurious country house in Woodbury, Conn, is completely unlike the artistic "house"' of Breton's poem. There are a stone terrace built by Tanguy (a do-ityourself fan), a pond with decoy ducks, and a rowboat for "harvesting the bull-rushes." Artist Tanguy works in a made-over barn. As he describes it, he simply stands before his easel and begins to paint?without plan, without thought of what he is doing. Says he: "I am still the prisoner of my skin...
