...contrast with Yale is striking, the totals in her case being: Yale, 121; opponents, 19. Further statistical examination is even more in Harvard's favor, Yale having been held to tie scores three times,--twice by elevens of very minor importance--and has met one decisive 16 to 6 defeat, at the hands of Colgate. Equally striking, however, has been Yale's rapid late season progress, terminating in her 3 to 3 score against Princeton, in a contest in which she is generally admitted to have completely outplayed her opponents. Against this brilliant showing, Harvard has to offer only...

...excelled in rushing through the line and in kicking. The surprise of the season came when Colgate won a 16-6 victory over the Yale eleven. The Colgate attack was powerful and sustained and this combined with fumbles on the part of Talbot and Knowles resulted in Yale's defeat. After this defeat the Yale team took a distinct brace and showed in the game against Brown that they still had a powerful attack and excellent individual players in spite of the slump of the week previous. The Tiger eleven was plainly outplayed, having the ball within striking distance of the Yale goal only twice, and being saves from defeat by a beautiful 43-yard drop from the toe of Captain Baker. In addition to his successful drop from the 30-yard time, Guernsey missed three others, none of them...

...Yale coaches are well satisfied with Saturday's exhibition. Two tie scores and one defeat, all by teams of minor importance, have made it seem that the New Haven team is far below its usual standard. But in the last two weeks, it has been coming back with a rapidity which should satisfy the most pessimistic, and has shown such great improvement in all departments that the outcome of next Saturday's battle is placed gravely in doubt...

...Then by a series of terrific line plunges Harvard went over for a touchdown which won the game. That game will be to 1916 what the Freshman baseball game with Yale has been to 1914. Seniors still remember the desperate ninth inning rally which converted seemingly sure defeat to a tie. The enthusiasm with which the men in the stands came to the support of their team was the real climax of class spirit that year. If 1917 will only turn out today to imitate that spirit we are confident of the result. The first Freshman contest of the year...
