...practice in stopping it in the games with the second team; but the correct defense could not be found. This was evident from the very start, when Yale began to gain slowly and steadily through the line. The excellence of this formation was, therefore, the principal cause of the defeat. There were also several less important causes: The Yale line was heavier, stronger and faster than Harvard's and this made it practically impossible for Harvard to gain on offensive play. Yale had remarkable team-work and there were always several men to help the runners and pull them along...

After two years of defeat, Yale won from Princeton Saturday by the decisive score of 29 to 5. Yale scored twice during the first half and three times during the second. Princeton's only score was in the first half when Mattis kicked a field goal after Princeton, having got the ball on Wear's fumble, was unable to go through the line. All of Yale's scores except the first were made by steady rushing and line-smashing tactics, and just as was expected, the Princeton line could not hold it own. Hale and Bloomer were Yale's best...

There is too much easy-going spirit shown which will mean certain defeat unless eradicated. The team seems to expect some one else to do its brain work for it, and is constantly caught napping on a point of rules. The team has the power to make a creditable showing if it will have some determination to correct its own faults and work together...

The poor team work and slow starting of the Freshmen were the main causes of defeat, in spite of the fact that they had a heavier team and played a hard smashing game. The best playing of the Freshman team was done by the tackles and ends who got the start on their opponents and ran well after punts. The line-up was as follows: Freshmen. Andover. Burgess, r.e. l. e., Burke. Jones, r.t. l.t., Botchford. Jackson, r.g. l.g., Weeks. Bleakie...

...able to wear out a strong defense by line attacks. Hale, last year's centre, has shown surprising ability as a full back for such a heavy man. In Saturday's game with Columbia's his line-bucking in the second half was the principal reason for Columbia's defeat. His punting was steady and his work in the interference was also very valuable. Chadwick proved to be another good linebacker. Both the guards and tackles were also used in the offense and battered down Columbia's defense very effectively...
