Jeremy R. Knowles, dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences from 1991 to 2002, was one of the most prominent figures at Harvard in the late 20th and early 21st centuries, bringing the Faculty's budget out of a deficit and expanding the campus in Cambridge during his formative tenure.
