...total concert experience is here. The footage covers 15 songs from various Stones concerts. The deft camera work insinuates the film audience into the midst of the group, giving a sense of privileged, almost private participation. The sound track, reproduced quadraphonically, makes the floor hum and the seats vibrate, and the songs come out in bounteous cascades...
...seriousness in that. The jokes just keep the story human without cheapening it. No smug double entendres here; precious few anachronistic references. What makes The Three Musketeers so elusive is that the clumsiness is intentional and built-in, as one might infer from the casting. Yet the movie is deft. Clumsy and deft; uncorrupt and sophisticated; slaphappy and professional; gawky and disarming--the adjectives contradict each other, and one's reaction should be "yes ... but." By all evidence, the oil shippers have done a deft job; people who two months ago feared disastrous oil scarcities now voice suspicion because the shortfalls have not really been...
...Goals. The man in charge of the U.S. military response to the new Russian challenge is James Rodney Schlesinger, 45, who was sworn in as Secretary of Defense last July 2. By profession an economist and military strategist, the tall, pipe-smoking Schlesinger demonstrated deft and tough skills in administration and problem solving in his previous jobs as chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission and director of the Central Intelligence Agency (see box page 16). At the Pentagon, he has set two goals for himself: 1) to overcome the legacy of the Viet Nam War, which has left the services...
