You can't imagine the number of husbands and lovers, current and former, who need to be accounted for at the holiday feast. There's also an unacknowledged sibling and a troubling pregnancy to be dealt with. But deft direction and an elegant ensemble combine to make an ironic, dryly sentimental comment on the clash between Yule tradition and postmodern sexual anarchy...

...first-rate showcase of Maas' signature "wet, hard funk," a genre-defying dance floor assault whose defining characteristic is its ability to create mass gyration on the dance floor. The basic tools-sirens, cricket chirps, claps and Maas' favorite sound effect, the synthesizer growl were not especially deft or inventive in themselves, but the insistent bass and driving beats kept the crowd eager for more. The stabs at drama, such as cutting the strobes to frame Maas between two columns of red light, were simple at best, but enthralling nonetheless...

...Little Ups and Downs" was an excellent, soulful showcase of the band's new vocal lineup. The band's instrument work was equally superb. Louris' harmonica brought a classic country sound to the driving rock sound characteristic of the live show. New addition Jen Gunderman provided a deft touch on the keyboards.
