...lacking in silliness for a kids book. Essayist David Sedaris' "Pretty Ugly," drawn by Ian Falconer, about a monster girl who makes a horribly cute face and gets stuck that way, hits a more child-like tone. Other contributors include Spiegelman himself, Jules Feiffer, Barbara McClintock and Kim Deitch on the secret life of cats...
...thick, book-length anthology, "Legal Action," (256 pp; $14.95) has been published by the Dirty Danny Legal Defense Fund towards which, short of printing costs, all proceeds are going. The peculiarity of "Dirty" Danny Hellman's situation motivated enough comix heavyweights, like Robert Crumb, Art Spiegelman, Spain, and Kim Deitch, to donate their work and turn "Legal Action" into one of the most anticipated comix of the year...

Replied Mrs. Deitch, in tears: "It is better for you that your list...
Again, a film based on the liberal faith in constructive discussion. In her vast panorama of American womanhood Deitch has given a lot of very different women a chance to speak their minds--everyone, in fact, but women further to the political left than she. It would be unfair to derogate her achievement just because she has left out socialist feminism. But there's something chilling about her choice of interviewees. When a whole group of prostitutes agree, tantalizingly, that "the system must be changed," and then explain that their idea of freedom from oppression is the freedom...
