Operation Overkill sets in, but the play is weak in credibility and ramshackle in structure. Only the actresses stand out. Eileen Heckart is a thorough delight as Dede's pal Bella Gardner, a swaying lush more avidly at home in bedrooms than boardrooms. In the juiciest part, Estelle Parsons blows through the play like a typhoon...
Even if "Land Use Planning: A View from the West," McCall's topic, doesn't send you into paroxisms of intellectual delight, simply listening to McCall talk should be a pleasure. His speaking style is light, slangy, and occasionally outrageous. When governor he hired an avant-garde poet as a speechwriting assistant, and he once read a tract from the libretto of "Hair" to a staid group of Masons. Who know's what he'll say to a group of college students...

These are all concert readings without scenery but tailored to the rather obvious delight of devotees of original-cast albums...
...acting styles are not precisely attuned. Kahn, a proficient comedienne, caricatures herself at times. She lacks the vernal innocence intrinsic to the role. Bostwick, on the other hand, could be playing a slightly baffled Romeo, which happens to be just right for this part. Rita Moreno is an animated delight as the amorous prey of a slickly narcissistic cad (Laurence Guittard). and George Rose lends his customary authoritative presence to the role of the autocratic shop owner with a heart of fudge. As for Sheldon Harnick and Jerry Bock, they serve playgoers a song feast in which music is indeed...
Like Moliere's M. Jourdain, who in middle age found to his delight that he had been speaking prose all his life, a huge number of Americans are raptly if belatedly discovering that they are scions. Everyone-not just Anthony Dupuy Crustworthy IV-has ancestors and, with time, patience and luck, can trace a pedigree and track his progenitors back to Minsk or Marseille, the Isle of Wjght or at least Ellis Island...
