...Mañana” Dir. Jamie Hewlett and Pete Candeland Gorillaz are without a doubt my favorite virtual band comprised of animated apes, so it’s nice to see an interesting and dramatic video for the five thousandth (okay, fourth) single from “Demon Days.” It’s also nice to see that Gorillaz are all about teaching important life lessons: although it may seem cool to live in a windmill on an island floating through the clouds, the lifestyle has its drawbacks. “Guitarist” Noodle learns...

...three friends boasted about their partying adventures on the popular social-networking site facebook.com "He said he was interested in Satanism," says Jeremy Burgess, 19, DeBusk's dormitory roommate. But one "demon hunting" trip amounted to little more than an excuse to drink in the woods. According to court documents, Cloyd, DeBusk and Moseley set the first five fires as a joke after a night of drinking and shooting at deer, then torched four more churches 100 miles away to throw police off their trail. A lawyer for Cloyd described him as "remorseful" but would not comment on his guilt...

MARIJUANA The so-called demon weed turned out to be a lot less devilish than advertised. The popular image of the goofy, smoky slacker notwithstanding, a 2003 study in the Journal of the International Neuropsychological Society found that even among regular users, there is no proof that pot causes irreversible cognitive damage. Memory does get cloudy, and learning new information does get harder, but those effects fade if the user does kick the habit. The drug may also diminish libido and fertility. ...that woman, Miss Lewinsky." In between were plenty of lies, but America ultimately forgave him because he went on television and spoke sincerely. That strategy doesn't fly in Britain. And I don't think Kennedy will get very far if he writes a Lohan-like ditty about the demon rum. His best bet is to say he's sorry, disappear for a while, and come back with a new career; perhaps as a newspaper columnist, where he can throw his own stones. As for me, I'm going to stop reading stories about celebrity confessions - tomorrow, I swear...

Very few good albums make as bad a first impression as Demon Days. The cartoon characters on the front cover, the irritatingly meaningless track names (Fire Coming Out of the Monkey's Head) and the menacing prefatory oboes (oboes!) make it seem like a concept album about global warming for kids. Since the lyrics remain a bafflement, it might well be. But give the songs a fraction of the attention that went into making them, and you will begin to catch bits of good stuff from rock, rap, dance and dub. Then, magically, it all comes together in your head...
