Victor and Matthew are accompanied by their teenaged daughters, Jennifer (Michelle Johnson) and Nicki (Demi Moore). While the foursome drive along the strip of beach upon arriving at Rio and notice sun bleached bodies cavorting on the sand, Victor asks "Maybe we should talk about 'boys." We see however, as the film progresses, that Victor's parental concerns do not extend any farther than the brief car ride. In fact by the end of the film, we begin to wonder who the children really...

...sparkling wine used for the toasts (Schramsberg Crémant Demi-sec 1981) lacked luster. But the California red (Silver Oak Cabernet Sauvignon 1978) was a western rainbow, smooth and joyous. The beef farci en croũte was a might overdone, but the candy sculpture of birds and flowers (all edible) that decorated the dessert servings was exquisite...

The international rich have rediscovered the Gold Coast's Palm Beach County. Though it includes the town of Palm Beach, this incubator for the newly wealthy is snob years distant from that small, code-ridden oasis of blue blood and encrusted money. The Gold Coast nouveaux, for the most part lustier, sportier and much younger than the ancien régime of Worth Avenue, converge from all over the world...

...from the Pyrenees to the Alps, from the sands of St.-Malo to the beaches of Nice, with hardly a dull plat en route. Willan succeeds admirably in analyzing the tastes, products, humors and quirks of each region. She proffers such delicate provincial dishes as dandelion salad, poularde en demi-deuil and sole with stuffed artichoke bottoms (preferably using the slippery little fish known in Bordeaux as "lawyers' tongues"), as well as such robust peasant offerings as potato pie, braised partridge with lentils, and stufatu, a Corsican beef stew with macaroni...
